Pat Robertson

Pat Robertson acts as co-host of “The 700 Club,” the Christian Broadcasting Network’s most popular and enduring program that serves as a multimedia pulpit for Robertson’s right-wing political-religious ideologies.

In 1990, Robertson founded the American Center for Law and Justice, or ACLJ, to serve as a leading defender of religious freedom and to counter the American Civil Liberties Union, or ACLU. In recent years, that led ACLJ to focus more and more on Islam. “I want to say it again and again and again. Islam is not a religion, it is a political system bent on world domination, not a religion, said Robertson. "It masquerades as a religion, but the religion covers a world-wide attempt to exercise power and to subjugate the world into their way of thinking.”

Specifically, ACLJ filed a lawsuit to block the construction of the Park51 community center in New York City, thereby effectively attempting to deprive a non-Christian religious community of its constitutionally protected rights. ACLJ also teamed up with Fox News and Patrick Poole, a writer for the right-wing Pajamas Media blog, to manufacture hysteria centered on a potential radical Islamist infiltration of the Congressional Muslim Staff Association.  

In an April 22, 2013 program of The 700 Club, Robertson compared Islam to Nazism."[W]e didn’t have any problems saying that Hitler was bad," Robertson said. "No problem at all saying the Nazis were monsters, no problem. We were fighting the Nazis, and our job was to defeat the Nazis, and everybody in America was mobilized to defeat the Nazis. ... Now we’re fighting a war, but we refuse to identify our enemy even though it's in plain sight.”
